Incognito shines on debut in the Group 3 Breeders' Plate

Epsom Day holds the traditional curtain-raiser for the new crop of two-year-olds, with both the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate and the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes featuring on an outstanding card of racing at Royal Randwick. The Breeders’ Plate has been a happy hunting ground for the JHB Colt Partnership, with three previous winners over the past decade, notably with subsequent Golden Slipper winner Capitalist, along with Khan and Espionage.

It was therefore particularly satisfying to see this year’s crop of colts, in our first season partnering with Tony Fung Investments, continue that success with Incognito running out an impressive winner to become the fourth colt to salute in the green and gold silks.

After stumbling out of the gates, Incognito was positioned towards the rear, but jockey Tommy Berry remained composed. The colt, from the first crop of Stay Inside, showed an electric turn of foot to surge into contention in the straight and held off a strong challenge from I’m Ya Huckleberry to score stylishly.

Incognito was purchased from the Eureka Stud draft at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for the partnership. Our thanks go to trainer Michael Freedman, who has done an outstanding job with this talented colt, and to Tommy Berry, who gave him a superb steer.

Congratulations to our ownership group: Tony Fung Investments, Belinda Bateman, Sean and Felicity Dyson, Tom and Leslie Kennedy, Marc and Lindy de Stoop, Gary Diamond, Fergus-Pat Doyle, Rob Love, Tam Dieu and Jacqui Sushames, Danny and Pauline Saab, and The Northerly.
